Are you familiar with the story of the Samaritan woman?
I read my Bible everyday and when I became a follower of Jesus, I decided that the Bible will be the ultimate and only standard of my life (by God’s grace). I usually have my reading time, along with my reflection and devotion, anywhere! I do it in the bus when I go to work, when I’m traveling, before bedtime, while eating, while resting and all sorts as long as I can hear from Him (in my heart) and I can bounce my thoughts to God. Recently, I do it early mornings over anything I can munch. Today I had hot double chocolate drink, so comfy!
Going back to the Samaritan woman, here’s a quick Word:
7 A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” ( For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.”13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.” (Source here)
God made me realize that, if we do not say yes to Jesus, we will always be drawing water from man-made wells of satisfaction, that ironically will NEVER satisfy us – waters that will make us thirsty forever. Man-made wells can be career, material things, high grades, money, relationships, even husbands, wives and kids.
But Jesus said, drink of the Living Water, and you will NEVER be thirsty again. A satisfied person is so full that in him/her a spring of water wells up to eternal life. He/she gives, ministers, radiates, purposes, shares the Living Water.
Having a quiet moment with God daily actually reduces stress and keeps you from being uptight. But more than that, it draws you nearer to Him, it also makes you more like Him. Nothing beats His love, kindness and truth.
Here’s my hot cocoa this morning – double chocolate mix-your-own from Starbucks.
