There are thousands of passages in the Bible about riches and money. But these are the ones I adhere to the most.
Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. (Deuteronomy 8:17, 18 ESV)
Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness. Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle. (Proverbs 23:4, 5 NIV)
I believe the secret is, whether in much or little, is having God not just ‘involved’ but The Lord over your finances and life. Then there would be nothing wrong with building earthly wealth.
Earthly wealth and possessions come with great responsibility. They require right heart, integrity and character. Without such things, they will destroy you.
Sad to say, it’s not first time that we were able to witness a big scam like Napoles’ case as a nation. Almost every year, we do see corruption of people in the government put on trial.
It’s amazing how God uses riches and money to expose one’s heart. With riches we are tested, and it’s either we make it or break it.
If only we see that God is more than enough in our lives, we will aspire to live a simple life- not with a poverty mentality but with a mindset that has the assurance of God’s provision. I think that would be building true wealth.
